Hi everyone! Today is our last day here and then we have a month of “holydays”, and mine will be full of work because I have to make some homework and study for the exams on march. Then I also have to record some new songs with a friend so I won’t  have much time for rest.

Well, today I’m gonna talk about books. I can’t remember what was the first book that I read but I remember that when I was a little girl I read a lot, I had tons of books and tales and I read them over and over again. I’m a good reader actually, I think I have good free reading habits.

I have written also, but I used to write more when I was young. Now I just write some songs and some other stuff but just when I feel inspired. Some nights ago I was feeling very inspired but I was having a test of Sociological Theory on two days so I couldn’t write and it was sad.

Now I’m translating a book called “The Asylum for Wayward Victorian Girls” for a friend, and the book is huge, it’s 12" by 9", hardcover, 266 pages and weighs nearly 5 pounds. Since it’s that big I’m just going to translate the first chapters as a present for her birthday (it was on january but I haven’t had the time to see her).

I don’t think I have a favourite genre of books, but I read a lot and I have read very different kind of books.

I think that as a social scientist you also like reading, What are your favorite book, Do you have a favorite genre?

Hugs and have and amazing summer, Daniela.

Animals

Hi everybody!
How are you today? I’m super tired and I think now I know what does it feel to be a zombie (and it’s awful).
So today I’m gonna talk about a very special animal (and this post is completely dedicated to a university’s friend called Loreto).
The animal that I will chose this time are: dinosaurs! (and I will talk about a very special one)

One of my classmates is a dinosaur, and its natural ambient is my home. Sometimes she goes there and we study together and I feed her. She loves eating french fries, chocolates, cakes and ice creams but she’s super skinny. Her hair is long, black and curly and she loves art.
I care about my dinosaur, I take her to the vet and feed it. Sometimes I go with her to the park  so she can feel in a more friendly environment.
Dinosaurs get along well with bunnies (bunnies like me) and are super responsibles. Her favorite tv show is Hannah Montana, and now I’m introducing to her “Octonautas” which is tv show from discovery kids that I love.
Now, talking in a more serious way, I love animals and I think our society needs to think more about animal rights because if we want to live in a fair world we can’t just focuss on human’s problems.
So which is your favorite animal? Do you have some pets? I wanna know all about it!
Love and magical hours of sleep, Daniela.

Girls that Glitter Love the Dark

Hi again!

Originally my post was going to be about MaYaN, a new death metal band that I totally love (yes, I sleep with my bunny and listen to metal, and I’m proud of it). But Hannah just created a blog, and I want her to know that someone in the blogosphere is talking about her.

I just can’t talk about Hanna’s music from an objective point of view. I just can describe her music as something very unique, kind of ethereal and magical, sweet and dark at the same time. Sometimes I listen to her before I go to sleep because, I just love all her anti – lullabies and it has become a therapy listening to her at night.

I think we both feel that our inner world is way too different from that thing called the “real world”, so we try to create atmospheres according to what we really are and feel, and stay true to ourselves in creative ways.

What kind of music do you like? Do you have a favourite song? Maybe a favourite band? Let me know about it!

Today News: An Unhappy Childhood

The article talks about a research that found out that almost one in 10 children over the age of eight are unhappy in the UK, according to a landmark survey by the Children's Society

The prime minister said that it was time “we admitted that there's more to life than money”. At a first look I coulnd’t imagine how money could impact on children’s happiness, because I remember that when I was a child money was never an issue to me.

Anyway, material wealth does appear to affect a child's happiness, and that’s why Unicef declaired that British children were caught in a "materialistic trap".

The survey shows that children as young as eight were "aware of the financial issues their families face". Childrens care about money because they are worried about their  appearance, at a very young ages. They care about their clothes and how they look. This pression about the image increases with age, and is greater among girls.

I think our society is doing something wrong if children are so unhappy because of matters like their appearence. It seems that the media is putting such a high emphasis on the body image that everyone is just getting mad about it, even children.

Time for Travelling!

I think that travelling is so much fun, but it can be also really tiring, there are many countries I’d like to visit, and it’s hard choosing one right now, so I’m gonna pick two of them…
Germany
I have an ex boyfriend on Germany and we are super closed to each other so I miss him so much and I’d love to see him again. What do I know about Germany? Not much really, only that they speak deutsch and I don’t know that language, but I wouldn’t mind having to learn it.  I’d like to stay there but not forever just some time doing absolutely nothing more than having a great time (I can dream, right?).
The United States
There’s nothing that I’d really like to visit there but I have an amazing friend who lives in New York City and I’d love to work with her for some time, she always has super lovely projects and I’m totally in love with her. I met her last year and I’ll probably gonna see her again on 2012, we are constantly emailing each other and talking via skype.
Have a super happy new year! xoxo, Daniela

Time for Movies!

I don't have a favourite movie, but I love many movies I've seen, one of them is called The Virgin Suicides, and it was directed by Sofia Coppola in 1999. It’s about a group of male friends that become obsessed with the life of the Lisbon sisters, who are sheltered from the world outisde by their strict parents after one of the sisters commits suicide. The movie was inspired by a book with the same name, written by Jeffrey Eugenides.

I love Sofia Coppola’s work, many people say that her movies are boring because they are slow, but I absolutely love them and I can watch them over and over again. I love the aesthetic and the atmosphere she creates. Beyond that, I think that she has a gender perspective that  she expresses in a beautiful way. When I see her movies I feel the need to dress up in a very ethereal way and eat cupcakes and macaroons, and drink some champagne in the grass to then watch the sunset.

Do you like movies? Do you have a favourite one? Maybe a favourite director? Let me know about it!

Firstly I’d like to introduce myself since this is my firt time posting on a blog. My name is Daniela and I study sociology at Universidad de Chile, I have this english class and I was requested to create this blog.
I’m gonna talk about my expectations for this new term. I want to learn many things and to have good marks, and the most important right now is: to aprove Sociological Theory I, tomorrow I have the second test so wish me luck!
The subjects I’m taking are: Stadistic (III), Sociogical theory (I and II), Cualitative Thecniques  (I), Epistemology and English (IV).
This semester is a little bit different ‘cause we will be studying almost the whole summer, but I don’t mind, I’ve heard my classmates complain about it but I love summer, and I rather go to university on summer than on winter (winter is too cold and I don’t want to get out my bed so early).

In some other news tomorrow I'm meeting a friend and I hadn't see her in many time, so it will be an amazing evening. Keep me updated with what are you going to do this weekend and tell me how is your semester going until now?
Love and tea, Daniela.
